Hojo Gardens

Hojo garden is a Zen Buddhist garden, is a contemplative garden designed to be viewed from the temple, but not walked in. The dry sand represents bodies of water, the rocks are the mountains, and the ripples are the waves or tide. They are small gardens that depict a nature scene that will quiet the mind for mediation.

The first few photos are of Toranoko-watashi-no-niwa garden-this garden uses six large and small stones to depict a tiger cub crossing a river.
